Draft Scouting Report
Cody Simon is a smaller, stocky off-ball LB prospect with decent spring and mobility, but his shorter arms are a limiting factor for the position. His range is solid but not exceptional, and his play diagnosis needs improvement; he’s often caught behind the leverage of pulling guards or offensive linemen climbing to the second level while he's figuring out the ball’s direction. Block shedding is a weakness as he lacks the power or hand technique to consistently defeat blockers. He does show the ability to avoid blockers when pursuing outside runs, though. With his loose hips, he's an asset in zone coverage, capable of sinking into space, but struggles to grasp route concepts around him. His ball skills are average, though he flashed some ability to run with tight ends down the seam. As a blitzer, he's effective when lanes are defined and can bring explosiveness, but he doesn’t consistently win against blitz pickups. Simon is a backup-caliber, three-down linebacker with average traits and instincts, though his coverage upside gives him a chance to make an NFL roster.
- 2024: Third-team All-Big Ten (team-leading 112 tackles)

- Explosive blitzer
- Loose hips to sink comfortably in zone coverage
- Sifts through traffic well en route to the ball carrier
- Takes an extra split second to diagnose the play design
- Not a deft block-shedder
- Doesn't read route concepts quickly
