Draft Scouting Report
Lathan Ransom is a deep safety prospect with the frame of a strong safety and room to add weight at the NFL level. He plays with a methodical, aware approach, keeping his feet under him and diagnosing play direction well. When he sees a target, he attacks downhill with impressive speed and authority. His suddenness and change-of-direction ability are solid but not elite, though his football IQ allows him to play a step faster.
As a tackler, Ransom is inconsistent -- often opting for big hits instead of securing wrap-ups, leading to some misses. His ball-hawking ability on the back end is good but not great. He’s at his best in a true robber role or split-safety looks, where he can patrol half the field and use his awareness to stay in position. He closes quickly on underneath routes, recognizing when the ball has to come out fast.
While not the most consistent player, Ransom’s instincts, flashes of speed and hard-nosed mentality will appeal to NFL coaches. His ability to play within a structured role while delivering physicality makes him a fit for teams seeking an intelligent, aggressive presence in the secondary.
