Trishton Jackson MIN WR
Vikings' Trishton Jackson: Not playing Week 5
8m agoJackson (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Jets.
With Jordan Addison returning to the lineup for the Vikings' Week 4 win over the Packers after missing the previous two games with an ankle injury, Jackson has found himself as the odd man out of the Minnesota receiving corps. The fifth-year wideout is inactive for the second week in a row after he played just 10 total snaps on offense in the two games that Addison missed.
-
Malachi Corley NYJ WR
Jets' Malachi Corley: Healthy inactive for Week 5
11m agoCorley (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Vikings, Randy Lange of the Jets' official site reports.
The rookie third-round pick out of Western Kentucky had been active for each of the Jets' first four games, but he played just three total snaps (two on offense, one on special teams) in Weeks 1 through 3, and he didn't see the field at all in the Week 4 loss to the Broncos. Corley will now find himself on the inactive list for the first time all season while the Jets have five wide receivers suit up ahead of him.
-
C.J. Mosley NYJ ILB
Jets' C.J. Mosley: Sitting out Sunday
15m agoMosley (toe) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Vikings, Randy Lange of the Jets' official site reports.
Though he made the trip to London with the Jets after missing the team's last two games due to a sprained right big toe, Mosley wasn't able to advance beyond limited participation in practice this week and took a doubtful designation into Sunday. As expected, Mosley will ultimately miss a third straight game, paving the way for Jamien Sherwood to serve as the Jets' defensive signal-caller once again.
-
Cooper Kupp LAR WR
Rams' Cooper Kupp: Targeting Week 7 return
1h agoKupp (ankle) will remain out for Sunday's game against the Packers, but the Rams are hopeful that the wide receiver will be ready to return to the lineup following their Week 6 bye, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Since suffering a left high-ankle sprain in the Rams' Sept. 15 loss to the Cardinals, Kupp hasn't practiced in any capacity and is set to miss a third consecutive game Sunday. The Rams are apparently optimistic that Kupp will be able to resume on-field work coming out of the bye week, however, and if he experiences no setbacks during Week 7 prep, the expectation is that he'll suit up for the team's Oct. 20 game against the Raiders. With Kupp and Puka Nacua (knee) both out of the lineup, the Rams have handed more opportunities to Jordan Whittington, Tutu Atwell, Demarcus Robinson and Tyler Johnson, but no members of the group have emerged as a consistent No. 1 target for quarterback Matthew Stafford.
-
Fred Warner SF MLB
49ers' Fred Warner: Appears set to suit up Sunday
6h agoWarner (ankle) is listed as questionable but is expected to play Sunday against the Cardinals, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Warner sprained his ankle in last Sunday's win over New England and missed the first two practices of Week 5 prep. He was able to return to a limited practice session Friday, however, and entered the weekend with a questionable tag. Assuming Warner is cleared upon the release of the 49ers' inactive list 90 minutes prior to Sunday's 4:05 p.m. ET kickoff, he'll take the field against Arizona and avoid what would be just the second missed game of his seven-year NFL career.
-
Trey McBride ARI TE
Cardinals' Trey McBride: In line to suit up Sunday
6h agoMcBride (ribs) is listed as questionable but is expected to play Sunday versus San Francisco, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
McBride missed Week 4 against Washington while in concussion protocol but was able to return to full practice sessions Thursday and Friday during Week 5 prep. However, he surprisingly popped back up on the injury report Saturday due to an injury to his ribs and was given a questionable tag. Despite the fact that he's now nursing a new injury, McBride looks like he will be able to play through the issue Sunday, ensuring that the Cardinals have one of their top pass catchers for a key NFC West battle with the 49ers. The Cardinals won't officially clear McBride to play until they release their inactive list approximately 90 minutes prior to Sunday's 4:05 p.m. ET kickoff.

Austin Hays PHI LF
Phillies' Austin Hays: Doesn't appear in Game 1
13h agoHays (back) did not appear in Game 1 of the NLDS against the Mets on Saturday.
Hays missed the final two games of the regular season with a back issue, and despite having a week off he still did not take the field in Philadelphia's first postseason game. If his absence was health related, the Phillies' decision to include him on the roster suggests he should be back in the short term.
-
Miguel Rojas LAD SS
Dodgers' Miguel Rojas: Back in lineup for Game 1 of NLDS
14h agoRojas (thigh) is batting ninth and starting at shortstop in Game 1 of the NLDS against San Diego on Saturday.
Rojas sat out the final four games of the regular season after aggravating a left adductor injury, but the team expressed optimism that he'd be back for Game 1 of the Division Series. That will indeed be the case Saturday, as Rojas is slated to start at shortstop for Los Angeles. Tommy Edman -- who had been filling in at shortstop in Rojas' stead -- will head back to center field for Game 1, which pushes Andy Pages back to a fourth-outfielder role.
-
Freddie Freeman LAD 1B
Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Will start in Game 1 of NLDS
14h agoFreeman (ankle) is batting third and playing first base Saturday in Game 1 of the National League Division Series against the Padres.
Freeman told reporters Friday that he'd be in the lineup for Game 1, but Dodgers manager Dave Roberts expressed uncertainty about that happening early Saturday. The situation seemed to be touch-and-go throughout the afternoon, as third baseman Max Muncy was spotted warming up with a first baseman's mitt and Freeman told reporters following his pregame routine that he wished he "had an answer" about whether he'd play, per Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times. It appears that Freeman will ultimately try to push through the injury, though he'll almost certainly be less than 100 percent and will probably be limited in what he can do on the basepaths.
-
Joe Kelly LAD RP
Dodgers' Joe Kelly: Likely out until World Series
16h agoKelly (shoulder) isn't expected to be able to pitch again this season unless the Dodgers reach the World Series, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports.
Per Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic, Kelly tweaked his shoulder in a simulated game this week. The issue explains why the right-handed reliever was left off Los Angeles' NLDS roster. Though Kelly posted an unimpressive 4.78 ERA and 1.47 WHIP over 32 innings during the regular season, he recorded a 9.8 K/9 and tied for third on the team with 13 holds.
-
Clayton Kershaw LAD SP
Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: Won't pitch again this season
16h agoKershaw's injured toe has not improved, and he won't be available to pitch again in 2024 regardless of how far the Dodgers advance in the playoffs, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.
Kershaw is dealing with a bone spur in his left big toe and hasn't pitched since Aug. 30. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts indicated Saturday that the issue may have gotten worse as the veteran southpaw has tried to prepare for a return, and that will prevent Kershaw from pitching again this season. The future Hall of Famer was limited to a career-low seven appearances in 2024 and posted a 4.50 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 24:9 K:BB over 30 innings.
-
Freddie Freeman LAD 1B
Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Status for Game 1 uncertain
16h agoFreeman (ankle) isn't certain to play in Game 1 of the NLDS, and manager Dave Roberts said Saturday that he is "not as hopeful" about the first baseman's status as he was Friday, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Freeman told reporters Friday that he intends to play in the first game of the Division Series, but Roberts' comments one day later suggest that such a scenario is far from certain. It's not clear if Freeman has suffered a setback or if he was being overly optimistic when he said he expected to play, and it's worth noting that the severity of his sprain --- which he suffered just over a week ago -- typically has a recovery period of 4-to-6 weeks. Freeman is on the Dodgers' NLDS roster, but if he's unable to play Saturday, Enrique Hernandez could get the start at first base.

Landry Shamet NY SG
Knicks' Landry Shamet: Likely to secure roster spot
13h agoShamet is increasingly likely to earn a roster spot in the Knicks' opening night rotation, head coach Tom Thibodeau implied to Stefan Bondy of The New York Post. "I don't make the final decision on that, but I'm basing it on what [Shamet's] done on the floor. He's really done well," Thibodeau said.
Shamet is playing on a non-guaranteed deal, but based on Thibodeau's words, he's been a standout performer in camp thus far. Given that the Knicks will hand one of their two open roster spots to a veteran, it seems that spot is Shamet's to lose. Shamet averaged 7.1 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 15.8 minutes across 46 regular-season appearances, including five starts, for the Wizards in 2023-24 before missing the final 18 games with a left calf strain.

Brandin Podziemski GS SG
Warriors' Brandin Podziemski: Not starting in preseason contest
15h agoPodziemski is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's preseason game against the Clippers, Kendra Andrews of ESPN.com reports.
The Warriors have quite a battle at the shooting guard position, and while Podziemski could have a shot at playing steady minutes, head coach Steve Kerr has decided to start De'Anthony Melton alongside Stephen Curry in the backcourt. Podzmienski will see minutes off the bench and could get the chance to start in an upcoming preseason game for Golden State.
-
De'Anthony Melton GS SG
Warriors' De'Anthony Melton: Gets starting nod
15h agoMelton is in the starting lineup for Saturday's preseason opener against the Clippers, Kendra Andrews of ESPN.com reports.
Melton signed with Golden State this offseason after spending the last two years with Philadelphia. While Melton was expected to compete for a bench role, he will be given the opportunity to start in the team's preseason opener.
-
Trayce Jackson-Davis GS C
Warriors' Trayce Jackson-Davis: Gets start in preseason opener
15h agoJackson-Davis is in the starting lineup for Saturday's preseason game against the Clippers, Kendra Andrews of ESPN.com reports.
Jackson-Davis had been turning heads with his play in training camp and will get the chance to start at center in the first game of the preseason. He'll play alongside Draymond Green in the frontcourt, with the rest of the starting unit being Stephen Curry, De'Anthony Melton and Jonathan Kuminga.
-
Terance Mann LAC SG
Clippers' Terance Mann: Coming off bench Saturday
15h agoMann isn't in the starting lineup for Saturday's preseason opener against the Warriors, Law Murray of The Athletic reports.
Mann started in 71 of his 75 regular-season appearances for the Clippers last season. However, Kris Dunn will get the first start of Los Angeles' preseason campaign Saturday.
-
Norman Powell LAC SG
Clippers' Norman Powell: Starting Saturday
15h agoPowell is in the starting lineup for Saturday's preseason game against the Warriors, Law Murray of The Athletic reports.
The Clippers will be missing several regulars in their starting lineup, and with Kawhi Leonard (knee) sidelined, Powell will get his role at the small forward position. Powell averaged 13.9 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game across 76 regular-season appearances (three starts) in 2023-24.
-
Jordan Greenway BUF LW
Sabres' Jordan Greenway: Moves up after Peterka's injury
6h agoGreenway registered an assist, four shots on goal and two hits in Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Devils.
John-Jason Peterka left Saturday's game with a concussion and is considered day-to-day. After Peterka's exit, Greenway took his spot on the top line with Tage Thompson and Alex Tuch, and that trio combined for the Sabres' lone goal. Greenway doesn't have an extended history of success in a top-six role, though he produced a decent 28 points over 67 appearances while averaging 17:15 of ice time per game last year. The 27-year-old winger plays a heavy game and could have fantasy appeal in deeper formats if he remains on the top line throughout Peterka's absence.
-
Tage Thompson BUF C
Sabres' Tage Thompson: Tallies in loss
6h agoThompson scored a goal on three shots and added two PIM in Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Devils.
Thompson opened the scoring at 8:18 of the second period, but that was all the Sabres could manage against Jake Allen. Buffalo scored just twice over the two-game NHL Global Series in Prague, which is at least mildly concerning after the team fell short of expectations in 2023-24. Thompson was at the forefront of that decline, producing just 56 points in 71 contests a year after his breakout 94-point season. He has a goal, six shots and a minus-1 rating across two contests to begin 2024-25.
-
Paul Cotter NJ C
Devils' Paul Cotter: Nets game-winner Saturday
6h agoCotter scored a goal on two shots in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Sabres.
Cotter has enjoyed a hot start to the season with two goals and an assist over his first two games. The 24-year-old has added four shots on net, three hits and a plus-3 rating. He was occasionally shuffled out of the lineup during his time with the Golden Knights over the last two years, but he looks set to see consistent bottom-six minutes with the Devils. If his offense follows him back stateside, he should be able to surpass the 25-point campaign he produced in 2023-24.
-
Timo Meier NJ RW
Devils' Timo Meier: Scores in Saturday's win
6h agoMeier scored a goal on a game-high eight shots in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Sabres.
Meier was held off the scoresheet in the season opener, but he was able to chip in with an insurance tally in the second contest. The winger has added 10 shots, three hits and three blocked shots. Meier is firmly in a top-six role and healthy after undergoing shoulder surgery in April, giving him a chance to put together a better season than the 52-point effort he put forth in 2023-24.
-
Brayden McNabb LV D
Golden Knights' Brayden McNabb: Chips in with pair of assists
6h agoMcNabb logged two assists, two hits and two PIM in Saturday's 6-5 preseason loss to the Sharks.
McNabb isn't known for his offense, but he was able to contribute in the Golden Knights' preseason finale. Last year saw the defenseman record a career-best 26 points and 207 blocked shots while adding 148 hits and a plus-18 rating over 82 contests. The 33-year-old's physicality may continue to drop as he ages, and if he remains on the third pairing for most of 2024-25, he'll have a tough time getting back to the 20-point mark.
-
Tomas Hertl LV C
Golden Knights' Tomas Hertl: Racks up three assists
6h agoHertl recorded three assists in Saturday's 6-5 preseason loss to the Sharks.
Facing his former team, Hertl showed off why the Golden Knights acquired him at last year's trade deadline. The 30-year-old helped out on goals by Alexander Holtz, Mark Stone and Pavel Dorofeyev. Hertl is poised to fill a middle-six role entering 2024-25. Last season, he produced 38 points over 54 regular-season contests, but he's shown 30-goal and 60-to-70-point potential in previous years when healthy. In addition to his key role at even strength, Hertl is likely to see significant power-play minutes as well.
