Blue Jays' Jose Berrios: Allows two homers in no-decision
Berrios did not factor into the decision in Sunday's 7-6 extra-inning win against the Orioles, allowing four runs on seven hits and one walk with six strikeouts over five innings.
Berrios allowed a run in each of the first four innings, including a pair of solo home runs. He generated 12 swinging strikes on 86 pitches but also yielded eight hard-hit balls, six of which resulted in hits. The veteran right-hander owns a 5.16 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 21:9 K:BB across 22.2 innings this season and lines up for a home matchup with the Mariners next weekend.

Blue Jays' Jose Berrios: Tosses seven innings
Berrios (1-1) yielded one run on four hits and three walks over seven innings Monday, striking out two and earning a win over Boston.
The lone run against Berrios was a third-inning RBI sacrifice fly from Rafael Devers. While it was a successful outing for Berrios, he forced only two swinging strikes on 88 total pitches (55 strikes). He generated two or fewer whiffs in two of his 32 starts during the 2024 season. Berrios now owns a 4.58 ERA with a 15:8 K:BB through 17.2 innings across three outings. His next start is projected to be in Baltimore this weekend.

Blue Jays' Jose Berrios: Bounces back against Nationals
Berrios allowed two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out eight over 5.2 innings Tuesday against the Nationals. He did not factor into the decision.
Berrios looked sharp after a rough season debut. He struck out four of the first six hitters he faced and completed five scoreless innings. Keibert Ruiz tightened the gap with a two-run single, and Berrios was pulled at 95 pitches after walking the next hitter. Berrios will aim to pick up his 100th career win in what's looking like a road matchup against the Red Sox next week.

Blue Jays' Jose Berrios: Hit hard for six runs in loss
Berrios (0-1) took the loss after giving up six runs on nine hits and two walks in five innings during Thursday's game against Baltimore. He struck out five.
The Orioles knocked around Berrios, who served up a solo homer to Adley Rutschman in the first inning, a three-run shot to Tyler O'Neill in the third frame and another solo shot to Cedric Mullins in the fourth. Berrios was sharp while logging a 2.18 ERA and 1.11 WHIP with 18 strikeouts across 20.2 innings in the Grapefruit League, and the veteran right-hander will look to get back on track in what appears to be a softer matchup in his next scheduled start Tuesday at home against the Nationals.

Blue Jays' Jose Berrios: Sharp in final tune-up
Berrios gave up one run on four hits and a walk over 5.1 innings in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Phillies. He struck out five.
A Kyle Schwarber solo shot in the fifth inning was the only real blemish on the right-hander's line. Berrios built up to 84 pitches (53 strikes), and he wraps up his spring with a 2.18 ERA and 18:5 K:BB over 20.2 innings. His next trip to the mound will come Opening Day against the Orioles.

Blue Jays' Jose Berrios: Receives Opening Day nod
Manager John Schneider announced Monday that Berrios will start the Blue Jays' March 27 season opener versus the Orioles in Toronto, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
Though Max Scherzer (thumb) and Kevin Gausman also represented worthy candidates for the Opening Day nod, both have been eased along more slowly in spring training, which may have factored into Schneider's decision to go with Berrios in the first game of the season. Berrios has already made four Grapefruit League starts and struck out seven over six scoreless innings in his most recent outing Sunday versus Atlanta, so he should be able to give the Blue Jays plenty of length right away to begin the season. Berrios is coming off a 2024 campaign in which he submitted a 3.60 ERA and 1.15 WHIP -- his best marks since 2021 -- but his strikeout rate dropped to 19.5 percent, his lowest of any season in which he made at least 15 starts.

Blue Jays' Jose Berrios: Makes third spring start
Berrios allowed three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out one over four innings during Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Rays.
The veteran right-hander allowed just one run across his first two appearances of the spring, but Brandon Lowe tagged him for a three-run homer during the third inning Sunday. After posting a 3.60 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 153:54 K:BB across 192.1 innings last season. Berrios is locked in as a mid-rotation starter for Toronto, though his career-worst 7.2 K/9 in 2024 will limit his fantasy upside if repeated.
