Braves' Raisel Iglesias: Goes 1.2 innings for save

Iglesias earned a save against the Angels on Tuesday, allowing two hits and striking out three batters over 1.2 scoreless innings.
Iglesias got the call in the eighth inning with Atlanta up 5-2 and the tying run at the plate for the Angels with one out. He struck out both Logan O'Hoppe and Travis d'Arnaud to escape the jam, and then returned for the ninth after Atlanta plated two more runs. Iglesias notched a third straight strikeout to begin the ninth before giving up consecutive singles, and he was able to end the game by inducing a double-play grounder. For Iglesias to complete more than one inning was pretty unusual -- it was the first time he's done so during the regular season since September of 2024. With Robert Suarez around as his setup man, Iglesias doesn't figure to pitch more than one frame frequently, but his fantasy managers are certainly glad he was able to do so Tuesday since it resulted in his second save of the season.

Iglesias pitched a perfect inning to earn the save in Friday's 2-0 win over Arizona.
Iglesias came away with his first save of the season after he protected the two-run lead Atlanta established in the top of the ninth inning. The 36-year-old has allowed just one hit over three innings, though he's struck out only one batter and walked none so far. Osvaldo Bido had Atlanta's only other save prior to Friday, but that was a three-inning one. Iglesias is the favorite for the traditional closer role early in the year, though Robert Suarez is also an experienced option after primarily working the ninth inning with the Padres over the previous two seasons.

Iglesias worked a scoreless ninth inning in Monday's 4-0 win over the A's. He didn't record a walk or a strikeout.
Atlanta hasn't produce a save situation yet for Iglesias, but he looked good in his first action of 2026, tossing seven of eight pitches for strikes while reaching 94.5 mph with his fastball, and the only A's hitter to reach base against him did so thanks to a Mauricio Dubon error, which quickly got erased by a double play. Iglesias has averaged 32 saves for Atlanta over the last three seasons and should have plenty of job security as a closer, but if he does falter, Robert Suarez stands as a ready replacement in the ninth.

Iglesias struck out two in a perfect fifth inning during Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Yankees.
The veteran closer fanned minor leaguers Jonathan Ornelas and Ernesto Martinez while firing 10 of his 11 pitches for strikes. Iglesias has a 3.00 ERA and 3:0 K:BB in three spring innings as he gets ready for Opening Day, but unlike 2025, he may not be able to afford a slow start to the season and still keep his job with Robert Suarez now in the Atlanta bullpen. Iglesias held a 6.00 ERA as late as June 17 last year, but after that point he posted a 1.34 ERA, 0.72 WHIP and 44:10 K:BB over his last 40.1 innings while converting 21 of 22 save chances.
