Tigers' Reese Olson: May not be ready for Opening Day
Olson (shoulder) may not be healthy in time for Opening Day, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Olson sustained a right shoulder strain in July and was placed on the 60-day injured list with hopes of returning for the postseason, but that never came to fruition. A report from the end of January indicated Olson would likely be ready in time for spring training, but the Tigers got an update on Olson's status this week that put his availability for Opening Day in doubt. Olson has started 35 games over the last two seasons with Detroit. If he's not healthy to begin the 2026 season, Troy Melton would be the favorite to claim a rotation spot, with Keider Montero, Drew Anderson and Sawyer Gipson-Long also in the mix.

Tigers' Reese Olson: Expected to be ready for camp
Olson is expected to be healthy for the start of spring training after getting shut down in late July due to a right shoulder strain, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
Olson missed the last two months of the 2025 regular season as well as Detroit's playoff run, but the righty started a throwing program in December and is trending in the right direction heading into 2026. Entering his fourth year in the majors, Olson has yet to surpass 112.1 innings, though he's also posted a sub-4.00 ERA each season, which gives a glimpse at what he's capable of when healthy. The 26-year-old figures to slot in behind Tarik Skubal, Casey Mize and Jack Flaherty in the Tigers' rotation, and he could take a step forward in 2026 from a fantasy perspective if he's able to increase his workload.

Tigers' Reese Olson: Beginning throwing progression
Olson (shoulder) was scheduled to begin a throwing progression this week, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Olson missed the final two month of the regular season and the playoffs with a right shoulder strain, but he is expected to be ready to go for the start of spring training. The right-hander has dealt with injury issues but has been effective when on the bump, boasting a career 3.60 ERA and 269:91 K:BB over 284.2 regular-season innings since 2023.

Tigers' Reese Olson: Won't be option until World Series
The Tigers would need to advance to the World Series in order for Olson (shoulder) to become an option to be added to their roster, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Olson has been sidelined since late July with a right shoulder strain but began a throwing progression in early September. It's unclear whether he's progressed to mound work, and given how long Olson's layoff has been, the right-hander seems like a long shot to pitch again in 2025.

Tigers' Reese Olson: Not throwing bullpens yet
Olson (shoulder) has been working on a throwing progression, though he's not yet ready for bullpen work and is likely still a ways off from returning, MLB.com reports.
Olson last appeared on the mound for Detroit back on July 24, and he's currently on the 60-day injured list as he recovers from a right shoulder strain. He received a platelet-rich plasma injection on Aug. 5, and there's a chance he can return if the Tigers make the playoffs and happen to stick around for a bit, but the righty's regular season is over. Whether Olson pitches again in 2025 or not, he should be a part of Detroit's rotation next year, and he's pitched well for the team since making his MLB debut in 2023.

Tigers' Reese Olson: Begins throwing program
Olson (shoulder) has begun a throwing program, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Olson has already been ruled out for the regular season, but it's an encouraging sign that he's started throwing. He's been sidelined since late July due to a shoulder strain. If his recovery continues without interruption, Olson could be healthy at some point during the playoffs.

Tigers' Reese Olson: Given PRP injection
Olson has been given a platelet-rich plasma injection in his injured right shoulder, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Olson will not require surgery for his right shoulder strain, but he has already been ruled out for the remainder of the regular season. The hope is that the PRP injection will help speed along the healing process and give Olson a chance to return at some point during the postseason, should the Tigers make a playoff run.

Tigers' Reese Olson: Will not require shoulder surgery
Olson will not require surgery to repair his injured right shoulder, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
The hurler is still awaiting final word on his latest medical evaluation before a path for his rehab is determined, but the good news is that surgery will not be necessary. Olson has already been ruled out for the remainder of the regular season, but he hopes to be available at some point in October if the Tigers make a postseason run.

Tigers' Reese Olson: Out for rest of regular season
Tigers president of baseball operations Scott Harris said Monday that Olson has been placed on the 60-day injured list and will miss the rest of the regular season due to a right shoulder strain, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
According to Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press, the Tigers are still leaving the door open for Olson to return for the postseason, though even if he's back in action by October, the right-hander could be limited to a relief role. Olson wasn't known to be dealing with an injury, but the shoulder strain helps explain why he was uncharacteristically lacking in command during his most recent start Thursday, when he was handed a loss against the Blue Jays after allowing five earned runs on six hits -- including two home runs -- and two walks in 5.2 innings. The Tigers acquired right-hander Chris Paddack from the Twins on Monday, and he'll end up taking over Olson's spot in the rotation.
