  • Royals' Jonathan India: Resting for early game

India is out of the lineup for the first game of Thursday's doubleheader with the Rockies. India had been scheduled to sit out Wednesday's matchup with right-hander German Marquez before the game was rained out, so it's not especially surprising that the 28-year-old finds himself on the bench for Game 1 of the twin bill while Marquez takes the hill for the Rockies. Expect India to be back in the lineup for the second game of the day.

  • Royals' Jonathan India: Not starting Wednesday

India is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Rockies. India is in a 6-for-46 slide at the plate to drop his season batting line to .195/.298/.244. Maikel Garcia is at third base and Cavan Biggio is at second base for the Royals on Wednesday as India gets a day to regroup.

  • Royals' Jonathan India: Back in action Monday

India (quadricep) will serve as the Royals' designated hitter and leadoff batter in Monday's game against the Yankees. He'll re-enter starting nine after he sat out his first game of the season in Sunday's 4-2 win over the Guardians while tending to right quad tightness. The Royals will ease India back into the lineup in a non-defensive role, but he should be ready to resume playing in left field or at third base within the next few days.

  • Royals' Jonathan India: Not in lineup Sunday

India (quadricep) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians. India will head to the bench after he was removed in the sixth inning of Saturday's 6-3 loss due to right quad tightness, an injury the 28-year-old disclosed that he had been nursing for a few days before aggravating it while running the bases, per Anne Rogers of MLB.com. After the game, India downplayed any concern about the issue and said that he expected to be available off the bench Sunday even if he didn't start. Maikel Garcia will pick up the start at third base and serve as the Royals' leadoff hitter Sunday.

  • Royals' Jonathan India: Dealing with quad tightness

India left Saturday's game against Cleveland in the sixth inning due to right quadriceps tightness, Jaylon T. Thompson of The Kansas City Star reports. Per Anne Rogers of MLB.com, India looked to be in discomfort in the dugout after running out his groundout in the third inning, but he stayed in the game before being removed in the sixth. India will undergo further testing to determine the severity of the injury.

  • Royals' Jonathan India: Drives in two runs

India went 3-for-5 with two RBI in Monday's 11-1 win over the Brewers. India was given the green light to play Monday after being removed from Sunday's 6-2 loss to the Guardians after being struck on the helmet by a pitch in the ninth inning. It didn't appear to affect him Monday, as he led the team with three hits including a two-run single in the seventh to expand the Royals' lead to eight runs. Following his 0-for-5 effort on Opening Day, India has gone 6-for-11 with two walks and two RBI across his last three outings.

  • Royals' Jonathan India: Getting green light to start Monday

India (head) will start at third base and bat leadoff in Monday's game against the Brewers. India's availability for the series opener in Milwaukee was in some question after he was removed from Sunday's 6-2 loss to the Guardians after being struck on the helmet by a pitch in the ninth inning, but his early exit looks to have been precautionary. He apparently passed all follow-up testing and should be ready to handle an everyday role during the Royals' upcoming six-game week.

  • Royals' Jonathan India: In left field for Cactus opener

India is starting in left field and batting leadoff Friday versus the Rangers in the Royals' Cactus League opener. It was known that India would be getting reps in the outfield during camp, but it's interesting that his first start this spring is in left field. India has never played anywhere other than second base at the major-league level, and the keystone could still be his primary position this season. However, India getting starts in left field opens up second base for Michael Massey, who will start at that position Friday.

  • Royals' Jonathan India: Dealt to KC

The Royals acquired India (ankle) and Joey Wiemer in exchange for Brady Singer on Friday. India enjoyed a strong 2024 season with the Reds while serving as their primary second baseman. However, with Matt McLain and Christian Encarnacion-Strand back from injury, there was a projected playing time squeeze along Cincinnati's infield. India should immediately slot into the starting second base job with the Royals ahead of Michael Massey, and he could hit near the top of the order given his career .352 OBP.

  • Reds' Jonathan India: Returning to Cincinnati lineup

  • Reds' Jonathan India: Not starting Wednesday

India (head) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Guardians. India was lifted from Tuesday's 6-1 loss after being hit in the helmet by a pitch a couple innings after his final plate appearance of the night and is being evaluated under the concussion protocol. The Reds haven't confirmed that India has been diagnosed with a concussion, so while he'll step out of the lineup Wednesday, he can be considered day-to-day heading into the club's season-ending series with the Cubs this weekend. Santiago Espinal will check in for India at second base in the series finale in Cleveland.

The power outburst came on the heels of a rough stretch for India during which he batted a paltry .138 with only one homer over his previous 24 contests. In fact, the second baseman had been in a five-game, 0-for-20 slump prior to breaking out Wednesday.
