  • Guardians' Travis Bazzana: Injured at Double-A

Bazzana is being evaluated for a right-side flank injury at Double-A Akron, Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Bazzana tweaked his side during the second game of a doubleheader Wednesday and was absent from RubberDucks' lineup Thursday. At this point, it's not clear how long last year's No. 1 overall pick might be sidelined. Bazzana is hitting .252/.362/.433 with four home runs and eight stolen bases over 33 contests with Akron this season. He's homered twice and boasts a 1.013 OPS across his last 10 games.

  • Guardians' Angel Martinez: Losing grip on center field job?

Martinez is not in the lineup for Friday's game in Cincinnati.

Martinez has now been out of the lineup twice in four games since Will Brennan was recalled from Triple-A Columbus. For the third time over that stretch, the Guardians are using Nolan Jones in center field and Brennan in right field Friday.

  • Guardians' George Valera: Beginning rehab assignment

Valera (knee) began a rehab assignment in the Arizona Complex League on Thursday, SI.com reports.

Valera is returning from a ruptured patellar tendon that has kept him sidelined since last September. He'll likely get plenty of time to find a rhythm at the dish and then begin his season at Triple-A Columbus when activated.

  • Guardians' Kyle Manzardo: Reaches double-digit homers

Manzardo went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 9-5 loss to Milwaukee.

Manzardo put the Guardians on the board with a second-inning home run. After leaving the yard five times over 53 games in 2024, Manzardo has gone deep 10 times in 38 games this season.

  • Guardians' Gavin Williams: Nice showing in no-decision

Williams did not factor into the decision Wednesday, giving up two runs on four hits and one walk over five innings in a 9-5 loss to the Brewers. He struck out six.

The right-hander allowed a run on two hits and a walk during the second inning and a solo homer in the fifth, but he was otherwise able to keep Milwaukee in check. Williams has surrendered just two runs with a 14:5 K:BB in his past two starts, but he covered five frames in both outings and hasn't pitched into the sixth inning since April 21. He has a 4.29 ERA and 1.64 WHIP through nine starts this year and lines up to face the Twins on the road early next week.

  • Guardians' Jose Ramirez: Clubs three-run homer

Ramirez went 1-for-3 with a walk, a three-run homer and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 9-5 loss against the Brewers.

The 32-year-old launched a three-run shot to center field during the eighth inning to cut into a 7-2 deficit, but Cleveland was unable to rally any further. It was Ramirez's second homer in as many days, which brings his total to eight for the season. In addition to the long balls, the third baseman continues to be one of the most productive hitters in the league with 12 steals and a .295/.363/.510 slash line through 41 games.

  • Guardians' Erik Sabrowski: Resumes mound work

Sabrowski (elbow) resumed throwing bullpen sessions earlier this month, MLB.com reports.

Sabrowski has been on the injured list all season due to left elbow inflammation and was briefly shut down in late April after experiencing increased soreness in his pitching arm. He was cleared to resume throwing earlier this month and has since stepped back on the mound, though it's unclear when Sabrowski might be ready to face hitters. Once the Guardians activate him from the 60-day injured list, Sabrowski projects to fill a middle-relief role.

  • Guardians' John Means: Could start mound work soon

Means (elbow) is expected to begin throwing bullpen sessions at some point this month, MLB.com reports.

As of April 30, Means had been responding well since starting up his throwing program, and he had increased his throwing distance off flat ground to 120 feet. Assuming he's avoided any setbacks in his recovery from Tommy John surgery over the ensuing two weeks, he could take the next step forward in the rehab process by getting back on the mound. Means still has multiple checkpoints to hit, but a late-season return from the 60-day injured list remains a possibility for the veteran lefty.

  • Guardians' Kolby Allard: Could enter rotation

Guardians manager Stephen Vogt said that Allard is "definitely an option" to enter the rotation after Ben Lively (forearm) was placed on the 15-day injured list Tuesday, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.

Triple-A Columbus lefty Doug Nikhazy and rehabbing right-hander Slade Cecconi (oblique) also represent options to fill the opening in the big-league rotation, but Allard may have the edge since his pitching schedule had been aligned with Lively's. After making four starts for Columbus, Allard has excelled while working in a long-relief role for Cleveland, turning in a 1.20 ERA and 0.87 WHIP over 15 frames. When Lively left his latest start Monday against the Brewers after working just three innings, Allard followed him with three scoreless innings of his own. Since he hasn't tossed more than 52 pitches in any outing in May, Allard could be on a light workload restriction if he's called upon to start when Lively's next turn comes up this weekend in Cincinnati.

  • Guardians' Lane Thomas: Will need week of rehab games

Thomas (wrist) will require at least a week's worth of rehab games with Triple-A Columbus before being activated from the 10-day injured list, MLB.com reports.

Thomas began his rehab assignment Tuesday with Columbus, going 0-for-3 with two strikeouts out of the designated hitter spot. The Guardians have a series in Minnesota that runs through next Wednesday, so the earliest Thomas rejoins the Guardians might be for the start of their series in Detroit on May 22. Angel Martinez has played well in center field since Thomas injured his right wrist a month ago, so Thomas might not be guaranteed regular playing time once he returns.

  • Guardians' Bo Naylor: Day off Wednesday

Naylor is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest versus the Brewers.

Naylor caught both of the first two games of the series but will get a breather for Wednesday's matinee. Austin Hedges will start behind the dish and bat ninth for the Guardians.

  • Guardians' Carlos Santana: Taking seat Wednesday

Santana is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Brewers.

Santana will get a routine day off after starting in each of the previous 11 contests. Kyle Manzardo will play first base for the Guardians on Wednesday.

  • Guardians' Logan Allen: Fires six shutout innings

Allen (2-2) yielded three hits and a walk over six scoreless frames Tuesday, striking out six and earning a win over the Brewers.

Allen was terrific Tuesday, allowing only one extra-base hit and at one point retiring 13 consecutive batters. It marked his first time completing six innings this season and he earned his first win since April 15. He tossed 57 of 89 pitches for strikes and generated a season-high 11 whiffs. Allen lowered his ERA to 3.70 to go alongside a 31:20 K:BB through 41.1 innings this season. His next start is projected to be in Minnesota.

  • Guardians' Emmanuel Clase: Picks up ninth save

Clase struck out two in a perfect inning and earned a save over the Brewers on Tuesday.

Clase threw 10 of 14 pitches for strikes to retire Milwaukee's 2-3-4 hitters in order and finish off the 2-0 victory. He's converted nine of his 11 save chances this season, including five straight. Clase has tossed five consecutive scoreless innings as he's seemingly regained his usual form. He now owns a 4.91 ERA with a 19:4 K:BB through 18.1 frames.

  • Guardians' Jaison Chourio: Hits IL with shoulder injury

High-A Lake County placed Chourio on its 7-day injured list Tuesday due to a right shoulder strain.

According to Tim Stebbins of MLB.com, Chourio's shoulder injury is considered mild in nature and is expected to sideline him for just a couple of weeks. Chourio is slashing .214/.396/.271 with a home run and four steals across his first 21 games with Lake County.

  • Guardians' Zak Kent: Back in majors

The Guardians recalled Kent from Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.

Kent has made two relief appearances with the big club this season, allowing one run with a 5:2 K:BB over four innings. He'll give the bullpen a fresh arm after it was needed to cover six frames in Monday's win over the Brewers.
