Tavares has a goal and two assists over three games in February after returning from a six-game absence due to a lower-body injury. He's slotted right back into his usual spot on the second line and first power-play unit and hasn't lost a beat. The 34-year-old center is up to 45 points, 129 shots on net, 59 hits, 28 blocked shots and a plus-5 rating through 47 appearances this season. He's on pace for a significant rebound after slipping to 29 goals and 65 points in the 2023-24 regular season.

Maple Leafs' John Tavares: Thriving this season
Tavares notched a power-play goal in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Flames.
He scored 41 seconds after having a goal disallowed on video review. Tavares has put up a point in each of the two games he's played since his return from injury, bringing the renaissance man to 44 points, including 21 goals, in 46 games this season. Tavares is thriving in the last year of his contract. It could set him up for a solid payday, unless he chooses to re-ink with the Leafs at a discount in order to keep the core four intact.

Tavares notched an assist and two hits in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Oilers.
Tavares saw 19:54 of ice time in his return from a lower-body injury that cost him six games. The 34-year-old center returned to his usual top-six role as well as a spot on the first power-play unit. Tavares is at 20 goals, 23 helpers, 125 shots on net, 57 hits and a plus-4 rating over 45 appearances. It's unclear if he'll be able to hover around a point-per-game pace the rest of the way, but he should give Toronto's offense a significant boost now that he's healthy again.

Head coach Craig Berube said Monday that Tavares (lower body) has resumed skating and will likely participate in a full practice soon, Joshua Kloke of The Athletic reports.
Tavares has spent the last week and a half on injured reserve due to a lower-body injury, but Berube is optimistic that the 34-year-old could be back at practice in a full capacity by the end of the week. If Tavares can meet that timetable, it wouldn't be surprising to see him return to game action before the 4 Nations Face-Off.

It came on the power play into an empty net in the last minute of the game. Tavares extended his point streak to eight games (seven goals, six assists). JT seems to be staving off Father Time this season with 19 goals and 38 points in 37 appearances. His 17.1 shooting percentage is well above his 13.0 career mark, but it's not like he's never done this before. Tavares hit at 16.4 percent in his first season with the Leafs when he lit the lamp 47 times. It helps that his deployment will continue to be prime with Auston Matthews (upper body) back on the IR.
