Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Unavailable Saturday
Sorokin (illness) won't be in the lineup for Saturday's road matchup against Utah.
The Islanders recalled Jakub Skarek on Saturday from AHL Bridgeport on an emergency basis. Sorokin has won his last two outings, including a 30-save shutout against Vegas on Thursday. He has a 13-13-4 record with a 2.83 GAA and a .902 save percentage through 30 appearances this season. Marcus Hogberg will face Utah on Saturday, while Skarek will be the backup.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Steps up with 30-save shutout
Sorokin posted a 30-save shutout in Thursday's 4-0 win over the Golden Knights.
Sorokin earned his second shutout of the year and the 20th of his career in this performance against the NHL's top team. Given that he had allowed at least three goals in seven of his previous nine outings, this was a bit of a surprise performance, especially in hostile territory. Sorokin improved to 13-13-4 with a 2.83 GAA and a .902 save percentage over 30 starts this season. The Islanders' three-game road trip concludes Saturday in Utah, and it wouldn't be surprising to see Sorokin start that contest as well.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Set to start Thursday
Sorokin will protect the road goal versus the Golden Knights on Thursday, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.
Sorokin has gone 4-6-0 with a 3.54 GAA and an .873 save percentage over his last 10 games. He's seen a heavy workload in the absence of Semyon Varlamov (lower body), and that may be impacting Sorokin's performance. It'll be tough for him to turn things around, as the Golden Knights have scored 23 goals over their last six games, winning five of them.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Earns OT win vs. Boston
Sorokin stopped 26 of 30 shots in Sunday's 5-4 overtime win over the Bruins.
Sorokin didn't have his best individual effort, but it was just enough to lift the Islanders to victory in what turned out to be a high-scoring matchup. Even though Sorokin's role as the Isles' primary goaltender isn't under any threat, it's worth noting his recent performances haven't been particularly good. He's posted a save percentage below the .890 mark in three of his last five appearances, a span in which he's gone 2-3-0 with a 3.42 GAA and an .873 save percentage.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Tending twine against Boston
Sorokin led the Islanders onto the ice for Sunday's pregame warmups, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports, indicating he'll start on the road against the Bruins.
Sorokin has been held out of the win column in each of his last two starts, going 0-2-0 with a 2.05 GAA and .927 save percentage in appearances that both came against the Maple Leafs. He should have a more favorable matchup Sunday, as the Bruins are averaging just 2.61 goals per game this year, which is the fifth-worst mark in the league.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Cannot save his team
Sorokin made 29 saves in a 2-1 regulation loss to the Maple Leafs on Thursday.
The bottom line for Sorokin is grim. The Isles lack the kind of depth or offensive talent to compete most nights, and that means that Sorokin needs to be near-perfect to get his team a win. The Isles are tied for last in the Metropolitan Division, and their 14 wins tie them with Buffalo for the fourth-worst total in the NHL right now. They have scored just 103 goals in 39 games. Sorokin is an elite talent on a very bad team, and for the first time in his career, he isn't able to be a difference-maker for them. Now may be the time for keeper and dynasty managers to inquire about his availability, especially if they're rebuilding. Sorokin is just 29, and he has many, many great years ahead of him.

Sorokin will make his 14th start in the Islanders' last 15 games. Sorokin is 6-6-1 with a 3.17 GAA and an .884 save percentage since Semyon Varlamov (lower body) last played Nov. 29. Overall, Sorokin is 11-12-4 with a 2.92 GAA and an .898 save percentage. The Maple Leafs have tallied 118 goals in 38 games, 12th-best in the NHL this season.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Takes loss in hard-fought game
Sorokin made 22 saves in a 3-1 loss to the Maple Leafs on Tuesday. Toronto's final goal was scored on an empty net.
It was a hard-fought, but non-eventful game, and both Sorokin and Joseph Woll played well. Sorokin has seen a heavy workload this season -- he had started 12 consecutive games prior to getting a rest Sunday against the Pens. Overall, Sorokin is 11-12-4 with a 2.92 GAA and an .898 save percentage in 27 starts. It's the first time in his NHL career that his season save percentage has slipped below .909. His ratios reflect the struggles of his squad more than anything else.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Facing Toronto
Sorokin will be between the road pipes Tuesday against the Maple Leafs, Andrew Gross of Newsday relays.
Sorokin has alternated wins and losses over his last four starts, and he's allowed at least three goals in six consecutive contests. The Russian netminder will make his 12th appearance in December on Tuesday, as he's handling a heavy workload due to Semyon Varlamov's (lower body) absence. Toronto sits 14th in the NHL with 3.11 goals per game.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Grabs win over Penguins
Sorokin stopped 22 of 25 shots in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Penguins.
Sorokin has started 12 straight games, and he's now 6-5-1 in that span. He's showing some signs of wear -- the 29-year-old has allowed at least three goals in six straight games and eight of the 12 contests during his heavy run of playing time. Sorokin improved to 11-11-4 with a 2.96 GAA and an .898 save percentage over 26 starts this season. Semyon Varlamov (lower body) remains on long-term injured reserve with no clear timeline to return, but it wouldn't be surprising to see Marcus Hogberg get the nod Sunday in a rematch with the Penguins in Pittsburgh.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Starting 12th straight game
Sorokin will patrol the home crease versus Pittsburgh on Saturday, according to Stefen Rosner of NHL.com.
Sorokin will make his 12th straight start as backup goaltender Semyon Varlamov is still out of action with a lower-body injury, and coach Patrick Roy has yet to play Marcus Hogberg in anything but a mop-up role. Sorokin has struggled of late, going 2-3-0 in his last five starts while allowing 21 goals on 128 shots (.836 save percentage. He is 10-11-4 with a 2.95 GAA and an .898 save percentage this season. Pittsburgh has posted 3.08 goals per game in 2024-25.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Struggles vs. Buffalo
Sorokin stopped 18 of 24 shots in Monday's 7-1 loss to the Sabres. Buffalo also scored on an empty net in the third period.
Those six goals are the most Sorokin's allowed in a single game in 2024-25. The Russian netminder hasn't been at his best of late, going 2-3-0 over his last five appearances while posting an absurdly high 4.54 GAA and a poor .836 save percentage. The Christmas break should give Sorokin some much-needed rest amid this woeful stretch of form.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Shakes down Leafs on Saturday
Sorokin made 26 saves in a 6-3 win over Toronto on Saturday.
William Nylander beat him twice and Bobby McMann found twine once, but that was it. With Anthony Duclair's return Saturday, Sorokin finds himself finally playing behind a full Isles squad. His skills are elite, and you could see his fantasy value rise if the team can find a new level. Right now, Sorokin is 10-10-4 with a 2.82 GAA, .903 save percentage and one shutout. The Isles play the Sabres on Monday, and Sorokin is likely to close out the pre-holiday break with a start.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Back in net Saturday
Sorokin will guard the road net Saturday against Toronto, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.
It's been a tough stretch for Sorokin of late -- he's dropped three of his last four starts, struggling to an .865 save percentage in that span. The 29-year-old netminder will look to right the ship against a Toronto team that's won five of six gamews going into Saturday's matchup.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Gets hook in Tuesday's loss
Sorokin allowed four goals on 23 shots before being replaced by Marcus Hogberg to begin the third period of Tuesday's 4-0 loss to the Hurricanes.
Sorokin got hung out to dry by his defense, and the hook from coach Patrick Roy was more about trying to light a fire under the Islanders than it was about the netminder's play. Even so, Sorokin has given up four goals in three straight starts, and he's 3-4-1 through eight December outings with a 3.40 GAA and .879 save percentage. The Isles are off until Saturday, giving Sorokin some time to regain his focus.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Tending twine against Carolina
Sorokin will start Tuesday against the Hurricanes, per Andrew Gross of Newsday.
Sorokin's allowed four goals in each of his past two starts, and he's alternated wins and losses over his last four appearances. Consistency has been an issue for the Russian netminder due to the Islanders' third-period struggles. Sorokin will face a Carolina club that ranks fourth in the league with 3.60 goals per game.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Allows late goal in defeat
Sorokin conceded four goals on 22 shots Sunday in a 5-3 loss to the Blackhawks. The fifth marker was an empty-netter.
Sorokin defeated the Blackhawks at home Thursday, but the Isles had another third-period collapse Sunday. Connor Bedard was able to squeak one past the Russian netminder with under a minute remaining to give Chicago a 4-3 lead. Sorokin has made eight consecutive starts, and he'll need to continue shouldering the load between the pipes as Semyon Varlamov (lower body) was placed on injured reserve Saturday. Sorokin will likely get the start Tuesday against Carolina, but he should benefit from New York's following game not coming until Saturday in Toronto. The 29-year-old has a 9-9-4 record, .906 save percentage and 2.71 GAA through 22 appearances.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Slated starter for Sunday
Sorokin will defend the visiting net in Chicago on Saturday, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.
Sorokin gets the return matchup against the Blackhawks, as he stopped 26 shots Thursday, beating Chicago 5-4. Sorokin is 9-8-4 with a 2.65 GAA and a .910 save percentage across 21 starts this season. The Blackhawks will be a tired team after playing in New Jersey on Saturday. Chicago has found the back of the net 71 times in 29 games this season.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Hangs on for win Thursday
Sorokin made 26 saves in Thursday's 5-4 win over Chicago.
The Islanders seemed to have things well in hand when they took a 5-1 lead midway through the third period and chased Arvid Soderblom from the game, but the visitors caught fire late and scored the final three goals of the night, including two by Tyler Bertuzzi in the final 70 seconds. Since Semyon Varlamov (lower body) has been sidelined since late November, Sorokin has started seven straight games, going 4-2-1 with a 2.54 GAA and .911 save percentage. He could be feeling some fatigue, but it's not clear if the Islanders trust backup Marcus Hogberg enough to give Sorokin a breather.
